Ok. So we were talking about this in Sunday School today, and I for one disagree with every single thing our youth pastor said. Every. Single. Thing.
So here goes:
His first point was that humans, given a chance to be their best with education and technology, will be inherently evil/inherently sinful.
I agree. But the way that he went about to prove his point was inherently AWFUL.
His basic argument to back up his point was Hitler in Germany. They had the best education and were a world super power. Therefore, they went to "human default" and because of this human default they started their world domination plan. ALSO, he said that the education and technology helped fuel their evil-ness.
I have two points against this.
1.) If the human default is inherently evil, and the use of education and technology help the human default of being inherently evil, then was it an inherently evil decision to, for the Americans with education and technology, to go out and fight them?
Of course not. It was not "inherently evil," and it was not this stupid "human default" idea that he came up with.
2.) Who are you to say that education and technology is inherently evil??? Is he saying that by posting the Bible on the net to make it available to people who normally wouldn't read it, then the net is evil?? No! Technology is NOT evil. Education, is used incorrectly, CAN BE evil, but is NOT inherently evil.
Moving on.
During this point, one of the elders who was in the room also poised that "the Nazis were working on destroying Christianity."
HELLO?!?
WHAT was WWII over exactly????
Does he not KNOW????
Ok, sorry. But that really annoyed me.
It was NOT over wiping Christianity off the face of the earth. Sorry, but it's true. The part that involved ANY part of wiping people off the face of the earth were the Jews. End of story.
Moving on, though.
We then got onto the topic of free will because of tree of good and evil.
When a kid said "the devil owns the earth" I disagreed with him.
As, of course, my youth pastor did.
But then he tore it.
He said that the devil was lying when he tempted Jesus by saying that he would give him the kingdoms of the world. He thought that he had no temporary power over parts of the world.
BUT read the verse: " 'I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.' " (Luke 4:6b)
He had been given the authority and splendor of the kingdoms.
So yeah...do you guys think I'm wrong? or....yeah.
